Corelle Time-honoured Cafe Black Service for Four
Many years ago, when Corelle first came out, I had ashamed children, and my sister gave me a gift of Corelle for Thanksgiving. It was wonderful because the children had broken so many plates and cups until to this durable gift. Through the years, and many moves, I have used ordinary dinnerware. But now, remembering the good grade and other features of Corelle, I decided to rid myself of all the old, heavy dishes and get a small set of dinnerware just for me. I have arthritis in my hands, and the lightness of Corelle is supreme for me. Of course I love the retro look from diners of yore that I ate in as a young woman. Important buy!!
Long-lasting, Cheap, Relatively Attractive
Noteworthy for someone just starting out. Far superior to the extremely cheap Wal-Mart/Target dishes. Very durable, very low-cost, and the set looks fine.

I got 2 of these sets and have been very chuffed with them. Not a single piece arrived broken or chipped, which is what I was the most worried about after reading other users reviews. The mugs are stoneware, so I'm intrusive to see how long they last. My plate set before purchasing this was stoneware and they were full of chips.Update (11/19/2010): After owning 2 of these sets for almost 3 years I can say that nothing has debilitated or chipped (including the stoneware mugs). Great purchase.

Selling for $49.95 at our regional Walmart
These are a precarious size and the shape is also nice--has a smaller footprint than the round plates if you are cramped for cupboard period. They are made of the traditional thin Corelle material and are a more "shallow" plate--like the traditional Corelle plain white plates.If you like the square shape and want a Corelle set that is a little fancier in solid white that will get-up up for formal occasions, you may want to consider the award winning Corelle Scandia White in Corelle's Ultra form a line. The Scandia White pattern has a fancier mold and the plates are a little deeper and thicker than this set.The big difference in the Ultra line and this set is the Ultras are 70% thicker than the traditional Corelle and have three layers of "field-glasses" on the finish instead of the one layer on this set--The Ultras have a glossier finish--elegant--and a little more cross. Splendid, elegant & practical
I undeniably like the look of these square dishes. Switching from stoneware to Corelle was a good decision. They take up much less range in my kitchen and it's easier to carry a whole stack of them with my arthritic hands.Because of their smaller size, we use the lunch plates more often than the feast plates. But we miss having the smaller bread & butter plates, so I ordered some bare white round 6 3/4 inch plates. Disappointed that we couldn't get small upright plates, but the round ones will be OK.The 22 oz. bowls are larger than most. The slight lip on the rim helps to efface them from the microwave without getting burned. Corelle doesn't heat up like stoneware.Also disappointed that the mugs are NOT Corelle window, but porcelain. They feel nice in your hand but could tip easier than most mugs.Overall I really like these tableware and would buy them again!

Cups not Innocent White
While I sweetheart the set...the plates are Pure White, but the cups are not. The cups are an off-white. Not an exact match.

Corelle is the most qualified!
I bought this to substitute a set of Corelle dinnerware we've had over 15 years. The old set start getting gray and streaky as if the years of utensils against the outside in daily use finally took a toll. When I decided to replace that set, I had no doubt that it would be with another set of Corelle. It is lightweight, dishwasher and microwave OK, is thin enough to not stack too high in the cabinet, and it stays nice looking even with heavy use.This set arrived well stuffed, the Corelle box and bubble packing inside another box, and everything was intact. The plates are really big! We will probably end up using the lunch plates as feast plates sometimes. The bowls also have a very large capacity, easily two cups.One main difference between this set and my old one is the coffee cups are not the same fabric as the dishes... they used to be made of the same 'vitrelle' and now are porcelain. I like the new ones better; they have a teeny more heft and keep...

Only one elfin fault
I relish these plates - they are attractive and durable. In particular, the cups and bowls are good, practical sizes. My one grievance is that the black stripes are a different finish and rougher texture from the rest of the plate. From time to time when a fork scrapes across one, we all get spine-tingles! If you are sensitive to this, you probably want to choose a particular style. But I do highly recommend Corelle in general. My 5-yr-old cannot seem to destroy them (and he does try).

I have had this original for over a year
I definitely liked this pattern when it came out and immediately bought 2 sets. I am here to buy another (always compare prices).I had Corelle rising up and liked the lightweight nature of it and the durability. However, the patterns were not so hot for a while. The newer patterns are great! I gave my old dishware to a college-bound relative when I got these. It was just too hard on my hands lifting 4 stacked stoneware plates from the diswasher to the cupboard.FYI, and stoneware/porcelain/clay pots dishes with chips should be discarded as dirt/bacteria can get into the unglazed part and you can't get it out. I don't like taking chances with my kinfolk's safety. I have never chipped a Corelle dish. My mother did drop one at walmart and it shattered into about a zillion shards, so it is on.The only bummer about this set is that the mugs ARE NOT corelle glass. They match but are ceramic. My old set had corelle mugs. The paint does look slenderize...
