Inspired by the artisan delftware of Central Java, Indonesia, Sango dinnerware items are handcrafted so that no two pieces are exactly alike. Not microwave/dishwasher okay?
I go a wish way back with Sango Nova Brown dinnerware. I bought twelve placesettings when they first came out, and I love their quiet, almost contemplative look on the board. The color graduations give them character and depth. For a simple plate, they are beautiful.BUT ...About six months after I bought the placesettings, some of the plates came out of the dishwasher with a caramelized smattering of spots. At first I compassion my dishwasher wasn't working properly, but then I started noticing the same strange gooey spots and streaks when I removed the plates from the microwave. Not all plates (and none of the bowls) had this problem, so I was able to isolate the problem ones.After a year of this, I called Sango to bitch. I didn't expect anything - maybe a "Thanks - we'll look at the line." The customer use rep was shocked that I had this problem and actually sent me, free of charge, eight new placesettings. spotty color
I also bought the Nova Grassy set for four. They looked great out of the box, but if food gets left on the plates for an extended period (like overnight) then it laid hold of the look and color. You could see where the food was. It took away some of the shine and left the color washed-out. No amount of washing or use of cleansers has been able to restore the original color. So I ended up with faded blotches here and there. I'm saddened enough to shop for replacements.I would also like to mention that these plates chipped and broke quite with no. I have since purchased some Dansk dinnerware and have been extremely pleased.

I got these tableware for my wedding and loved them at first! I liked the unique color but found that their claims to be dishwasher and microwave strongbox were untrue! They came out of the dishwasher the first time with a spotty, streaky film on them which never came off. I came to experience this, but again became dissatisfied when I started noticing small cracks in the center of my dinner plates. Over the route of about 8 months of use in both the dishwasher and microwave, these small cracks turned into larger cracks until one day one of my saucers came out of the dishwasher split right down the middle into two pieces! I was shocked, but still thought possibly I'd done something wrong.. I was going to accept this one broken dish, until I had two more exit the dishwasher in this same condition within 2 weeks chance. So, basically, these dishes only have a life span of one year! Luckily I'd registered for them at BB&B and they took them back once I showed them that 9 out of 12 of my feast...

Excessive Bowls, bad packaging
I ordered 2 sets of these dishes. They were shipped from Amazon in a large box with no packing material. Each set was in its original box, but no packing there either. Out of the 8 shipped, 6 survived. No support from Amazon. Very dissapointing.The bowls themselves are very nice. If you find them locally you will be happy with them.
Trim bowls, but ridiculously cheap packaging
I as a matter of fact wanted these bowls, bad enough to take a chance despite all of hte reviews that said they arrived broken. I figured some were as old as December and Amazon/Sango would have figured out how to enclose fragile bowls for delivery by now. I was wrong. My first order contained two boxes of 4 each. Only 1 bowl made it to me uncut, the other 7 had broken handles or were broken into so many pieces they were unrecognizable. Amazon was great in getting a replacement demand to me right away, and I feel lucky that the second order had 6 bowls intact and two defied. I'm going to stick with the 6...odds are that is the most that would make it through any shipment given the poor packaging from Sango.Notwithstanding the troubles, the bowls are great. I would recommend finding them in your local store though instead of having them shipped.

Still penniless packaging
Normally I would be against leaving a refusing review for a product based on shipping rather than the product itself, but in this case I have to go against my principles, mainly to guard no one else falls in this trap. I don't know what I was thinking when I ordered these. I read all of the reviews, especially the ones about the amateurish shipping, but I figured I would take a gamble. Out of 4 bowls, 2 of them were completely smashed. I don't mean they fitting had the handles broken off; they were broken into at least 50 pieces. Looking at the packaging Amazon provided, I don't see how it is at all reachable for anyone to receive all four of these intact. UPS delivery men WILL throw your package around. It's done at the sorting center, it's done when they transfer them to the trucks, it's done when they deviate from it at your house. Normally this isn't a problem since most packages are packaged well enough to survive this. But unless, by some miracle, UPS is as humane as a kitten with your box...
