Wow as amuateur epicure cook I am not sure how i lived without one of these. Its easy to use, clean and allows for sauce making like I never dreamed.
Noteworthy Service, but defective item
The items was broken. It appeared to us to have a very, very thin stainless steel layer in the bottom of the pan (where the food goes) that just flaked off. The seller was excellent to work with and gave a full refund after they were unable to provide a replacement. We really apprecaite this supplier.

Because I acquired much of my Calphalon cookware omnium gatherum more than five years ago, I have pasta, steamer, and double boiler inserts that were made from the same hard-anodized aluminum alloy as their pots and pans. Since Calphalon now manufactures these trimmings using 18/10 stainless steel, I've begun upgrading my collection. This beautiful 2-quart gifted stainless steel double boiler insert is very heavy duty, has a lifetime guarantee, and it fits faultlessly into my 2.5-quart Calphalon sauce pan. I place the insert in the sauce pan, which is partially filled with simmering profligately, to melt Callebaut chocolate for candy-making. I also use it when making Hollandaise, Béarnaise, and Béchamel sauces; and for making custard, pudding, and chocolate mousse. Pure - but could be better
I de facto enjoy my calphalon products. My complaint with this product is that the inside has a groove (around the circumference where the insert rests reversed the pot) - which makes it difficult to remove melted chocolate and other items. So I sometimes using a stainless protect mixing bowl instead of this insert because of the annoyance factor.

Massive for Vegetables
Very ticklish steamer - I use it a lot for vegetables like asparagus. One thing I was worried about was whether it would fit in my pots properly, but the graduated ridges effort fine with two of my pots. The fact that this one comes with a glass top make it worth the extra hard cash. The only negative is that the handles can get hot, so be careful.
A bit on the smaller side
Inner diameter at the top - 8in; brightness - 4 in. Tapers slightly towards the bottom. What it fits: [From the box] fits Calphalon Professional Hard-Anodized, Calphalon Commercial Nonstick and Calphalon Expert Nonstick; fits 2.5,3.5 and 4.5 qt. sauce pans & sauce pots I found it also fits of laughter 2.5 and 4.5 qt. pots from Calphalon Tri-Ply set . It is a bit on a smaller side. Large lobster will not fit whole, you'd have to break it up.

Artistic product. I use this all year for steamed veggies, holds 6 ears of corn, or for steamed clams. Hysteria almost any of my pans, but I usually use it with the 2 or 3 qt saucepot.
