The spider that lives in the web is found underneath the bowl upside down. Entomologists take it the doily is to shelter the spider from enemies below and the bowl may guard it from above. Although I’ve never seen an insect trapped in the bowl, it’s been said that the Bowl and Doily Spider will piece an insect through this web, then it wraps the snooker (mosquitoes, gnats, parsimonious flies, aphids) in silk.

Not being a fan of spiders, I chose not to look too efficiently. Part of the web had a pronounced inverted bowl form. Underneath the bowl was a bland room, like a freely permitted mat for the spider’s formal meal. Due to my spider loathing, I chose not to check up on the employer webmaker himself, who was perched upside down under the bowl waiting for some more activity. With my curiousity aroused, I searched the internet for “bowl shaped spider web” and discovered that the spider is called the Bowl and Doily Spider…who knew.
