    Description

Quit Rose the largest selling pattern in the history of American dinnerware, made its debut in later 1941. It has enjoyed the era's longest period of popularity of any dinnerware pattern produced by a single company. The Rose Rugosa, uncivilized wild rose of poem and song was a natural design selection. The status of the bloom with its simple delicate petals made it adaptable to hand painting. This splendid handpainted pattern is still one of America's favorite casual tableware patterns. In 1964 the sixty millionth stake had been produced and Desert Rose is now on display in the historical Smithsonian Museum. First Member of the aristocracy Jacqueline Kennedy chose Franciscan Desert Rose for use in the White House. In Desert Rose, the irregularly scalloped touchy of thorny vines creates a believable frame for the fully opened pink roses with their exceptional centers and soft green leaves. The softness of the design is further enhanced by its cream colored history. The twenty piece set includes four of each, 10.5 inch dinner plate, 7.75 inch salad plating, 6 inch soup/cereal, teacup and saucer. All pieces are microwave, freezer and dishwasher non-poisonous. Accessories are also available.
This set setting is pretty enough for entertaining yet sturdy enough for everyday use. The Desert Rose pattern features dainty pink rose blossoms with green and brown leaves and stems as accents on an off-wan background. The setting consists of a 10-3/4-inch dinner plate, an 8-inch side/salad platter, a 6-inch soup/cereal bowl (it holds about 7 ounces), a 6-ounce teacup, and a 5-inch saucer. The plates and spin have slightly scalloped edges. The teacup features a handle painted green like the leaves. Dishwasher- and microwave-sound. --Doree Armstrong

    quarters setting desert rose
I ordered this circumstances setting to add to the franciscan desert rose dishes that I already have ( from England). These poor quality dishware were made in Taiwan and were a different color and the flowers were not the same!!! I would never buy from Amazon again to match a set!!!!

Part of the bestselling dinnerware ornament in American history, this 12-ounce gravy boat attached to its stand exemplifies the free grace of Southwestern hospitality. First made in California and now produced in various countries, Franciscan dinnerware achieved unhesitating popularity when it appeared in the late 1930s and ranks as a prized collectible, particularly the American-made pieces (pre-1984). Apple (1940) and Uncultivated Rose (1941) are the only continuously produced Franciscan patterns. Today's Franciscan dinnerware fulfills contemporary expectations, universal safely into the dishwasher, microwave, and freezer. Franciscan Gatherer's Source Book
My progenitor worked for Gladding-McBean, Interpace and Franciscan for nearly 30 years so I grew up with this business, toured the factory and factory shop on many occasions, and went to university on an Interpace/Franciscan endowment. This book does a nice job of combining the history of the business with descriptions of the products they manufactured. The flush photos are excellent and there are pictures of some very rare pieces. A bonus is the designer drawings of some of the products with an increment of some that never made it to the stores. Included is the 1999 Replacements price guide to Franciscan ware. BTW, American-manufactured Franciscan ware is a feeling of the past (the plant was closed years ago) and the current English & Portuguese Franciscan pieces are made on novel molds and designs - and the site of the Los Angeles factory is now home to a Costco mall.
Definitely, a comprehensive book on Franciscan dinnerware!
There is so much to make attractive about this book that I hardly know where to start. The price guide (updated for 1999) covers not only the most everyday patterns (Apple, Desert Rose and others) but even contains some information on flatware and crystal pieces. The photos are a big-hearted size and are in full, lush color. There are some rare and hard to find pieces here, including ones that collectors may never have seen before as well as photos of items which never made it into stores. I always from looking at vintage advertisements for glass and dinnerware and this book doesn't dissappoint in that area, containing ads from Gladding, McBean, Franciscan Ware, Catalina China and more - many from the earliest years. The photos are so well done that I was truly amazed at the quality of the color and accurate reproduction of each piece. There are special Collectors' Notes throughout the book which make it easier for the collector to find symbolic pieces of shapes and patterns and to...
A libretto to return to again and again
Bob Sheet and Dale Frederiksen did a terrific job assembling this reference guide. 7 full pages are tender to 1 plate of each Franciscan dinnerware pattern, making pattern matching a breeze. Follow up pages show the unreserved line of available pieces within a pattern, a check list for each item in a particular stencil, and in many cases a picture of an original catalog page. Lot's of collector's notes with interesting tidbits about a choosy piece and pictures galore make this reference guide a must have for anyone with an interest in Franciscan
