Scrumptious Colors, Delightfully Shapes, Pesky Production Flaws!
I've had the same set of undefiled porcelain dinnerware for 18 years. These dishes were joined a few years ago by my husband's black stoneware serving dishes, and I quickly realized that food looked a LOT better on his dishes. Since that time, the menfolk (soften & 14 y/o stepson) have chipped, cracked or otherwise broken several pieces of my dinnerware set. Thus upon a recent significant birthday, I unmistakable I was going to buy myself a new set of dinnerware as a present.I loved the way food looked on the black plates, and wanted tableware colorful enough to stand up to my deep red dining room. The dishes had to be tough enough to stand up to the menfolk, be dishwasher at home and microwave safe. I soon settled on Fiestaware. I loved the assortment of colors and serving pieces and the potential of mixing and matching colors and pieces. I categorically love this stuff. When I got married my husband was unwilling to part with his old chipped dishes. Over years of looking at contrastive dishes, he found a reason for rejecting them all--wrong color, wrong shape, wrong data, etc. Finally I presented him with this (in Cobalt) and we found something we could agree on!No question that this was worth waiting for. It is very durable, with no chipping problems. It's heavyweight and handsome, so even without formal china (and who really uses that anymore?) we can still set a lovely table... Together with it shares one big advantage with formal china--a huge array of matching completer pieces. Even preferably, you can find it in department stores everywhere. Open stock is readily available, so even if I did manage to break one I could question replace it. This is NOT a rob-off.
For those of you that are new to the Fiesta Ware telephone by Homer Laughlin Corporation (HLC), this is NOT a knock-off of the original production. This new line of Fiesta Ware - manufactured by HLC - is initially produced with the original molds used to produce the product for over the past 60 years or so. New Fiesta Ware is made of a vitrifed china which requires a higher shooting temperature than the oringal line which was made of semi-vitrified china. Vitrified china appeals to the restaurant enterprise, a large part of HLC's customer base. (Next time you are in a restaurant, peek under the plate to see the name of the manufacturer - it will all things considered be HLC!) However, to accomodate shrinkages caused by the higher temperature, mold changes had to be done to the lids and 10.5" plates. Restaurants use Fiesta Ware and other HLC china because of its self-assurance. I have been using the new Fiesta Ware for every meal, every day for the past 13 years and have only broken a few things...

Noble, except for scratches.
These are well-intended, durable dishes, but the darker colors do tend to show scratches. When stacked, the rough bottom of one overlay can scratch the plate beneath it. This is a problem with the newer style Fiesta more than the "vintage" Fiesta which had more covering on the bottom, and a problem with new dishes more than those which have been through the wash many times. When stacking these dishes in the cupboard, especially when they are trade-mark new, you might want to put coffee filters between the plates to minimize scratching.

I wrecked them 2 weeks in :(
I categorically love the colors and look of these dishes, and they are very heavy and seem very durable. We registered for cobalt, plum, cinnabar, and periwinkle settings for our confarreation and just started using them 2 weeks ago when we returned from our honeymoon. We've been stacking them in the cupboard unprejudiced like any dishes because they certainly looked like they could handle it, but yesterday I noticed that many of them are submersed with scratches from being stacked! I can't believe it! They are deep enough that they can't be rubbed away and are really noticeable on my hellish dishes. I'm so bummed; I didn't have any idea that stacking them would wreck them (never bothered any of my other dishes), and there weren't any deliberate care instructions that came with the dishes. So while these are fantastic, I would take into consideration that they apparently destroy each other in the cupboard :(

Very strong and kid/family friendly
This is in combining to my previous review, which I said I couldn't get enough of this. I still give it 5 stars. Fiestaware is so durable--I swear it is unbreakable. I trust I don't jinx myself. Anyway, my 13-month old got a hold of the placemat and pulled it down, along with the dinner plate. I brown study my heart was going to break, but amazingly nothing happened to the fiestaware, not even a nick. And we have porcelain tile floors, where if something drops on it, it's in pieces. This solely tells you how durable Fiestaware it, and the whole family can enjoy using it. It is very worth it.
