Scrumptious Colors, Pleasingly Shapes, Pesky Production Flaws!
I've had the same set of silver porcelain dinnerware for 18 years. These dishes were joined a few years ago by my husband's black stoneware tableware, and I quickly realized that food looked a LOT better on his dishes. Since that time, the menfolk (groom & 14 y/o stepson) have chipped, cracked or otherwise broken several pieces of my dinnerware set. Thus upon a recent significant birthday, I asseverative I was going to buy myself a new set of dinnerware as a present.I loved the way food looked on the black plates, and wanted saucers colorful enough to stand up to my deep red dining room. The dishes had to be tough enough to stand up to the menfolk, be dishwasher on good terms and microwave safe. I soon settled on Fiestaware. I loved the assortment of colors and serving pieces and the plausibility of mixing and matching colors and pieces. I fervour this stuff!
I deep down love this stuff. When I got married my husband was unwilling to part with his old chipped dishes. Over years of looking at original dishes, he found a reason for rejecting them all--wrong color, wrong shape, wrong stuff, etc. Finally I presented him with this (in Cobalt) and we found something we could agree on!No question that this was worth waiting for. It is very durable, with no chipping problems. It's heavyweight and fair, so even without formal china (and who really uses that anymore?) we can still set a lovely table... Plus it shares one big profit with formal china--a huge array of matching completer pieces. Even better, you can find it in branch stores everywhere. Open stock is readily available, so even if I did manage to break one I could easily repay it. For those of you that are new to the Fiesta Ware brand by Homer Laughlin Corporation (HLC), this is NOT a knock-off of the original production. This new line of Fiesta Ware - manufactured by HLC - is for the most part produced with the original molds used to produce the product for over the past 60 years or so. New Fiesta Ware is made of a vitrifed china which requires a higher shooting temperature than the oringal line which was made of semi-vitrified china. Vitrified china appeals to the restaurant effort, a large part of HLC's customer base. (Next time you are in a restaurant, peek under the plate to see the name of the manufacturer - it will indubitably be HLC!) However, to accomodate shrinkages caused by the higher temperature, mold changes had to be done to the lids and 10.5" plates. Restaurants use Fiesta Ware and other HLC china because of its hardihood. I have been using the new Fiesta Ware for every meal, every day for the past 13 years and have only broken a few things...

Their consideration for their customer's safety is a long vertical commitment, with the removal of lead from select pieces of their line in 1986, to the complete execution of lead in all products since 1992.
Fiesta remains vigilant in the pursuit of innovation to reduce their carbon footprint on the far-reaching landscape. By rerouting waste kiln heat to other processes, they are able to eliminate the practice of enough gas annually to heat nearly 1,000 homes for an entire winter. Fiesta has also implemented a pottery reclamation system which blends back waste clay into their clay formulation at a rate of 2 tons per day. In additionally, 99% of all products are made in the USA, cutting the need for overseas shipments.
Fiesta pledges to reduce their amount of resource use, recycle what they use, and eliminate the use of natural resources when possible. In 2007, a review of their packaging certified for unnecessary cardboard to be removed--this improvement cut their cardboard usage by 17 tons over the movement of a year. In addition to the reduction of the cardboard that is used, all waste cardboard is recycled, and any new non-spiritual they purchase has a minimum of 39% recycled paper content. When innovating, Fiesta is mindful of the improvidence generated in upgrading their facility. In 2006, Fiesta upgraded wastewater treatment processes, and was proficient to reclaim an additional 1.2 million pounds of clear glaze, which previously would have been discarded. In 2007, they recycled over 200,000 pounds of stiletto, cardboard, and glass, and implemented a paperless order confirmation system, saving over half a million sheets of disquisition in the course of 1 year.

How to get rid of scratches on Fiestaware
I have a epitome of dinnerware that's very similar to Fiesta, Metlox Colorstax, and it gets knifemarks the way people are describing getting on Fiestaware. To get them off, I prepare a paste of Bon Ami cleanser & water, rub the paste all over the scratched parts of dish, leave the paste on for several minutes to half an hour, scrub the dish, then irrigate it off. The knife marks disappear to a great extent because they are *on* the glaze, not cut into it. I imagine this would work as well with Fiestaware as it does Colorstax.
Fun and stable but not perfect
We purchased our Fiestaware set in cobalt two years ago. All-embracing, we have been very satisfied: no breaks or chips whatsoever. The color is as deep and bright as the first day, even though we are constantly putting it in the dishwasher. We only have two issues with the set. One is that there are scratches manifest if you tilt the plates into the light. It is disappointing that scratches would show from ordinary use with a fork and knife. An other complaint is that when we use them in the microwave, the plate/bowl becomes very hot, long before the food is cooked. We get by using a hot pad or oven mit when handling the dish, but be advised that you may demand to heat up the food longer than with other dishes. In spite of these two problems, however, we intend to keep these dishes forever, or d them onto family who need a spare. They are VERY durable, aside from the scratches.

I can't say enough benign things about fiestaware, I'maddicted!! The colors are so great, I really love thispersimmon, but the sunflower , treasure, periwinkle andturquoise are pretty as well. Another great thing isthe durability, I have never had a chip or cross out andI'm pretty tough on dishes. Also, I am impressedwith Amazon, they have great customer ritual!

Most excellently Dinnerware Ever
I have owned many dinnerware sets over the years and always get annoyed of them, before I can break them. I eventually give them away. With Fiesta Ware, I find that I have not gotten tired of it. What is so wonderful, not only is practical for every day use, but as new colors communicate out and you add to your collection they complement each other and make a wonderfully colorful table whether you are setting a small plain or a large group. If you do happen to break any, they can be replaced with any other wonderful color. The large pieces are displayed in my hutch and I get many complements on them. I use them every day as they are so personal as well as prety. Highly recommed.

I do like my set but.....
I for all purchased my first Fiesta. I choose the cinnabar. I do like how the dishes seem to be able to handle everyday hard of loading the dishwasher and stacking in the cabinet. I'm not afraid to "handle" my dishware. They do seem tough. However I have only had mine for about 3 months and they are noticeably scratched up from silverware usage. Even my mother-in-law commented on how they looked. Peradventure a lighter color would not be so noticeable.
Incomparable dishes!
I proclivity these dishes! I just ordered my first set of Fiestaware from Amazon (in Cobalt Blue)& they are great! They have a minute heavy weight & so far have held up to daily use & dishwashing without a hitch. In a home with two small worry to boot!Be warned, however, if any of your dishes arrive chipped or broken, you will have to return the entire set. Luckily, Amazon takes tend of the cost of return-shipping. Make sure you are happy with the quality of the glaze & survey for bubbles or ripples on the surface, as it does vary.
