Scrumptious Colors, Exacting Shapes, Pesky Production Flaws!
I've had the same set of milky porcelain dinnerware for 18 years. These dishes were joined a few years ago by my husband's black stoneware tableware, and I quickly realized that food looked a LOT better on his dishes. Since that time, the menfolk (silence & 14 y/o stepson) have chipped, cracked or otherwise broken several pieces of my dinnerware set. Thus upon a recent significant birthday, I unwavering I was going to buy myself a new set of dinnerware as a present.I loved the way food looked on the black plates, and wanted dishware colorful enough to stand up to my deep red dining room. The dishes had to be tough enough to stand up to the menfolk, be dishwasher thick and microwave safe. I soon settled on Fiestaware. I loved the assortment of colors and serving pieces and the odds of mixing and matching colors and pieces. I sweetie this stuff!
I uncommonly love this stuff. When I got married my husband was unwilling to part with his old chipped dishes. Over years of looking at manifold dishes, he found a reason for rejecting them all--wrong color, wrong shape, wrong serious, etc. Finally I presented him with this (in Cobalt) and we found something we could agree on!No question that this was worth waiting for. It is very durable, with no chipping problems. It's heavyweight and gorgeous, so even without formal china (and who really uses that anymore?) we can still set a lovely table... Asset it shares one big advantage with formal china--a huge array of matching completer pieces. Even cured, you can find it in department stores everywhere. Open stock is readily available, so even if I did manage to break one I could conclusively replace it. This is NOT a hit-off.
For those of you that are new to the Fiesta Ware fringe a organize by Homer Laughlin Corporation (HLC), this is NOT a knock-off of the original production. This new line of Fiesta Ware - manufactured by HLC - is chiefly produced with the original molds used to produce the product for over the past 60 years or so. New Fiesta Ware is made of a vitrifed china which requires a higher shooting temperature than the oringal line which was made of semi-vitrified china. Vitrified china appeals to the restaurant application, a large part of HLC's customer base. (Next time you are in a restaurant, peek under the plate to see the name of the manufacturer - it will quite be HLC!) However, to accomodate shrinkages caused by the higher temperature, mold changes had to be done to the lids and 10.5" plates. Restaurants use Fiesta Ware and other HLC china because of its stamina. I have been using the new Fiesta Ware for every meal, every day for the past 13 years and have only broken a few things...

Far Wiser Than the Old Junk
Flatware had alway been the Achilles out at the elbows of the Fiesta offering. Prior to this new set each piece consisted of two pieces of colored plastic GLUED weakly to a pungent or rounded metal object of uncertain metallugurical origin. They were sub dollar-store distinction but but not priced as such. This flatware if more in keeping with the line -- colorful, robust and fairly priced; a fake step up.
Very solid quality...
I've always bought discardable IKEA flatware because of their fun and modern designs so I was thrilled to find this more permanent set by Fiesta. Aside from being impressed with this flatware blanket, I also like that I could purchase as many sets as I wanted to, since this is sold only as service for one person. I guess the only reaction better (for me) would be to sell this flatware by the piece - I could live without salad forks altogether...
Very Attentive
I found this flatwear set while shopping for easier grippable utensils for my sore arthritic hands. I was not yet ready for the "real" assistance tools, nor the prices most demand. I completely wanted something that worked, with more substance to the handles for gripping ease and balance. The price was just, and I am happy with the utensils. They are attractive and do the job for me. I hand wash them as I felt some of the reviews suggested they may rust if weak to moisture for too long. I will rerate them after some time to see how they stand up to wear and tear.
