DescriptionDuoDVR ViP 722k - Huge-definition receiver for 2 TVs The DuoDVR ViP 722k connects to two TVs - one high-definition (HD) and one standard-description (SD). View on separate TVs and simultaneous recording while watching another program. 500GB hard urge.Customer ReviewsOutdo PQ; 4 tuner capableThe 722K, a dual moon tuner model, is virtually identical to the 722 except for the following:1. Noticeably wagerer HD and SD picture quality than previous generation ViP's. (ViP 922 is also reported to have noticeable better PQ).2. Peculiar chip-set from previous generation ViP's are, among other things, supposed to make it easier to work with Heave functions and external devices yet to be released.3. The optional MT2 OTA module allows for receiving and recording up to 2 ATSC OTA village broadcast channels at the same time in HD.The interface of the 722K is exactly the same as the 722. Operationally, it is equal to previous ViP boxes. The most compelling reason to get a 722K and its greatest advantage is the capacity for it to track record up to 4 HD channels at the same time.First, the 722K does NOT come with an ATSC OTA (for your digital local broadcasts)demodulator installed--as is the the actuality with previous ViP's, but... Superior PRODUCT - DISK LIFE IS ABOUT 18 - 24 MONTHS I installed and govern a number of these units for our Emergency Operations at work. I also have one at home. We struggled through some software issues with the faster versions of this product and with the VIP 622. Most issues with the VIP 622 and 722 were resolved many months ago and are no longer a affair. Be aware that the hard disks last about 18 to 24 months. Then the unit needs set right. Dish sends out a replacement if you took the protection plan. If not, there is a nominal charge to replace a imperfect unit with a refurbished unit. The units function as advertised and serve us well in the Emergency Centers. I give it a genuine workout at home. The units do like to be turned of for a couple of hours each day to reconstitute themselves. Otherwise they distress periodic rebooting. They need plenty of ventilation as they put out as much heat as a 40 to 60 Watt lightbulb. With that ilk of energy useage, even when they are turned off, they cannot be Energy Star rated; and... Spectacular TO HAVE POINT & CLICK RECORDING AGAIN After digital over-the-air signals axed TVGOS programming downloads (and perpetually signal) to our Panasonic DVR with hard drive, we finally broke down and signed up for Dish Network's offer for at large HD upgrade with $6/mo DVR fee (with 2 yr commitment, etc.) -- specifying the 722k. I'm not a big fan of renting equipment, but for some rationality (digital licensing issues?) we haven't able to find a DVR with digital tuner and hard ambitiousness for a reasonable price. Since the $6/mo fee applies whether you use your DVR or theirs, and since the hard drive seems to have a limited duration (though the Dish rep said it depends on how much TV one watches (obviously) -- some hard drives might last 5 years), I figured renting is fair -- $72/yr for 2 to 5 yrs is $144 to $360 -- not far from the ~$350 Amazon is asking. And if your hard drive goes out after 2 years, you send it back to Dish and get another for a trifling shipping fee.Ours worked fine right out of the box. Features have been well...

DescriptionThe latest in technology from Dish Network. The underlying receiver, for the price. Two tv's can independently watch two shows simutanously. With DVR fuctionality, and over 180 HD Channels, there is no comparrison.Customer ReviewsReliability? We don't dearth no stinkin' reliability..Wow. I am definitely trying to like Dish Network. I recently switched from DirecTV after being a DirecTV subscriber since the mid 90's. When told it would take almost 6 weeks for a DirecTV help person to come out and replace my dish, I looked into Dish Network, liked what I saw and switched. They were able to have someone out the next day. The price was a lot less for more programming than I was getting from DirecTV. The HD purport is wonderful. Their installation guy was hard working and professional and their customer service people were without equal. The only DVR they had was the VIP722. I had TIVO's with DirecTV. Long story short, My first VIP722 died after about 3 weeks. I went through the unhitch, reconnect routine a number of times. I tried plugging it directly into the wall in preference to of a surge protector or battery backup. Noting seemed to help. To Dish's credit, they were quick to put in place of it by 2nd day shipping the replacement. I've now had the replacement connected for almost a... Preceding Tivo/Cox user, switched to Dish. I made the scourge from using Cox Communications and Tivo over to the satellite services about a month ago and so far I've been very satisfied. Dish and DirecTv have sturdy deals at the moment that I suggest people to research on their websites. In short, it was cheaper for me to swap to a satellite service if I wanted HD and DVR services in the long run over Cox and TiVo.As far as this DVR goes, I being loving it so far. 60 hrs of HD recording and 200+ of SD. I have 10 HD pictures on it and I'm still barely past using half of its available space. The DVR can be hooked up to 2 separate TVs(one of them HD, the other has to be SD). I advocate you plan to have the TVs near each other unless you wish to run alot of cable across the house. Both TVs can access new recordings stored on the DVR at the same time, something very convenient for families. In addition the DVR can record two separate shows at once. The only downside I've had with the DVR so far is... Extensive when it isn't rebooting ** Update 12-14-2009 **The portion has not failed for about one year. Apparently firmware has resolved the the reboot issue. I'm still using a surger defender despite DN tech support advising against it. Perhaps, the utility company added more power to my household words ;~) (see comments about DN tech support in my original post). Anyway, the unit has been reliable and has no manifest faults. I haven't connected an external Hard Drive for added storage but it's a agreeable feature (despite $40 fee to activate). The unit will provide HD viewing to one TV and SD to a second. It's perhaps the best DVR available at the present, possibly with the exception of the Tivo HD unit. Definitely a recovered bang for the buck than Tivo, if you just want to watch and record Satellite TV broadcasts.** Primary review **The VIP 722 is well designed, with the exception that some have reboot problems. A four or five star rating would be awaited, if the DVR were more stable...

Wink at 1 star review, false. Superlative product and it turns on automatically for programing set when it may be off. That reviewer shouldn't operate electronics. reconsider of Dual tuner The system worked diaphanous, but had two shortcomings - both of which I should have known in advance (so I am not complaining, just noting). The Dual Tuner VIP222k is not upgradable with a USB hard-headed drive, to allow recording. The Single tuner VIP211k is. Also the VIP222k needs an additional module (~$50) to flay in and record over the air ATSC signals. The VIP 211k is already equipped for it. I returned it and bought the VIP 211k. It would be over-nice to have the dual tuner, but not fatal! |

How do you hook up two tv's to DISH Network reciever vip722?
I have the holder's manual, but the directions are quite confusing. I know I could call DISH and have them come out and do it for me, but I would much rather do it myself. Any help would be greatly respected. Thanks!
