Oh - it was a pain to setup some times. They tricked me into buying the HD version when they still don't stand HD on the Mac OS/X. (They had an upgrade program and claimed my older Slingbox wouldn't be supported anymore which turned out not to be be realized.)But today, about a week before the 1 year hardware warranty is set to expire the box just quit. No power uncover, no network lights - the box doesn't do anything. Clearly a hardware issue or a bad power supply. However when I follow the directions on the SlingMedia website to get an RMA to put back the defective hardware, I was told I need to pay $29.99. I said it is still under warranty - you cannot charge me. The yourself said it was $29.99 to talk to them. I asked if it turns out to be a hardware issue - which it clearly is, would I get refunded? No was the rejoin. There is no escalation path.Consumers should not have to pay to have warranties honored. SlingMedia... Adroit product, with 2 HD caveats Having been a former user of the SlingBox Pro, I was already familiar with the SlingBox software and hardware setup. Receiving the ProHD it was utterly easy to perform the setup and installation required to be "slinging" my TV all over the world (and around my home).Despite having setup one of the the eccentric devices before, I attempted to walk through the installation as a completely new user. The booklet gives sunlit, easy to understand directions for the multitude of ways in which this device can be setup. It isn't relegated to "just" HD; the SlingBox Pro HD can also belt your standard definition content over the world or over your own network as well. This does not mean, however, that a person couldn't be patently confused just due to the sheer amount of devices one could potentially control with the SlingBox Pro HD (or the original Pro for that enigma).Remember when setting up the hardware, the location of the IR sensors is crucial in your ability to control... Spoiled after 100 days; More $ to get support I wanted to look at this product's feature set and its ease of setup or its compatibility or some other attributes. However, I could not: mine failed after only 100 days of ownership. And I couldn't initially get it definite by Sling because they told me they only support it for 90 days. I guess I'm old-fashioned in that I expect products to last more than three months before they naught. I also expect companies of those failed products to stand behind them.UPDATE ONE MONTH LATER: Throw was now willing to honor the warranty on my Slingbox....but only if I paid them $50 more for an extended promise. Yes, even though my product was well within the one year warranty. Only if I paid them more money would they answer my calls or e-mails asking them to supplant my unit.Anyone considering this product should add $50 to the purchase price when evaluating its worth to you. The upshot essentially comes with a mere 90 day warranty--you must pay extra after that. Sling should...
SiliconDust HDHomeRun HDHR-US Dual Networked High Definition Digital Tuner Device (White)
Details
DescriptionOne Box - Two Digital Tuners - Anywhere on Your Network/Dual Digital Network Joined Tuner Device/Watch - Pause - Record Digital and HD Content from Over-the-Air and Cable from any computer on your to the heart network system. Cross OS Compatible with Windows/MAC/Linux. Total Media DVR software included.Customer ReviewsWonderful network tuner with some limitations.OK, let's get the cons out of the way first: This box does not have a slit for CableCards, which means that you are not going to use it to record anything except either OTA digital TV (from an antenna) or the major networks on empty remove QAM from your cable. That's just the way it is, that's what this box was designed to do, and that cannot be changed. It will not pick up analog or encrypted-digital guy channels. It does not interact with your television at all, unless you are using your TV as a computer monitor. This is NOT the way to convert your old TV to away with digital TV.So what good is it? You can use it to pick up digital TV from an antenna or unencrypted QAM (usually network) cable signals, and creek to your computer for watching or recording.I have two of these on my local network. I use them to stream Fox, NBC, ABC, and CBS to my MythTV box, where I record everything broadcast by the Big 4 in primetime onto 2 750GB disks, which witter on about b hold out about 2 weeks of... After 4 Years of Honourable Use Comes a Cheaper Replacement [Update: Silicon Dust has shipped the as a replacement for this effect. I've purchased a copy for testing, and it is nice, replacing my original HDHomerun seamlessly in my sensor system. Signal quality on the newer device seems more consistent with fewer dropouts of marginal channels. As it is cheaper, sort of more energy efficient and smaller, the only reason not to buy the newer model is if you intend to devote 1 tuner to QAM line, and the other tuner to an antenna, which would be impossible given the single coax port.]What I like about this fallout is the flexibility a networked device delivers. All the computers in my house can access it as needed: the Linux box competition MythTV, the Vista PC running Media Center, the Mac running EyeTV. Even my iPhone can admission the HDHomerun to check on antenna... Eccentric device - the future of television? This spin-off is fantastic. After receiving the device I literally plugged it in to the cable TV, network and power, installed the EyeTV 3.0 software on my iMac and BAM!! It was working. Lovely high definition television TV right on my Mac desktop. I cannot fault the device. Yes it is ugly but you can put in a cupboard on on a shelf and never have to look at it again. I exceptionally don't understand why Amazon doesn't stock the device. The only downsides that I have encountered are with the Electronic Program Marker for the EyeTV software which actually uses TitanTV. It took 24 hours for it to download the first program show, and then I had to manually tweak all the stations.
Avertv Hybrid Volar Max TV Tuner Kit for Windows MTVHVMXSK
Details
DescriptionThanks to the strengthen of Digital TV (ATSC) or Unencrypted Digital Cable (ClearQAM*) reception;the AVerTV Cross Volar MAX is the ideal travel mate for viewing High Definition TV on the go.With Microsoft Windows Media Forefront, users will enjoy breathtaking and glorious TV viewing. Add this TV tuner to Windows 7 (Stamping-ground Premium, Professional or Ultimate) to turn your PC into a powerful Digital Video Recorder. Note Analog and Digital TV channels plus radio and record your favorite programs.Customer ReviewsOk... WowI've been using Media Fore on a WinXP tower since 2004. My HP unit came with a built in tuner which could only receive analog channels and the 2004 translation of MC that came with it only supported standard def TV. As the years passed, I was eagerly anticipating for a release of Media fore that supported HD programming. Once that happened on Windows 7 (and perhaps Vista), I needed to find a tuner press card that would work with it.Over the years I would check release info on new products and read about one sad experience after another in any event the failure of available HD tuner cards on the market and issues regarding firmware, drivers, configuration settings, etc.Clever that most new technology needs a few years to get the bugs out, I didn't buy and waited. The last few months had me itching to try and for ever set up a HTPC (Home Theater PC) system. When it comes to video quality, my assumption was that I'd get better interpretation from a PCI internal tuner card... Prodigious device for Windows 7! I bought this as a 2nd TV tuner for my Win7 media fore computer, because some TV shows I watch regularly have time conflicts. And I wanted a tuner that could receive ClearQAM channels, which my built-in tuner doesn't do. This was faultless. I bought an Avermedia tuner for my parent's computer and they've been very happy with it, so I chose this over some other brands. The install with Win7 was charming effortless. Plug into a USB port, plug my TV cable into it, and Win7 installed the driver (no software comes with it, and it's not needed). I opened Windows Media Fore, it saw the 2nd tuner, I set up my channel guide listings, and now I can record 2 shows at the same time, with one of them in hi-def. It's fantastic. I infrequently watch a TV show when it's actually on, and have gotten used to shows recorded in SD...it's such a treat to watch things in HD now!I was a barely irritated when I saw the recent price drop, but dug around and found that a rebate was... Frightening, may buy another I purchased this merchandise expecting it to be something I would use to avoid arguments over the TV. I figured the picture would be just OK. I was wrong. I don't even bother with the video receiver anymore. I have 2 displays on my PC, so I can watch TV on one while doing stuff on the other. I can record shows when I'm away or too Rococo with life. It's great. The quality of the picture is incredible. I think I'm going to buy another, so I can have true DVR functionality on my PC! When it at home all I had to do was attach the cable feed and plug it into a USB port. Windows 7 installed the drivers and when I opened media fore, media center walked me through the rest. media center took about 15 minutes to look over through all the stations I get and setup, but then it was done (and that includes downloading a 2 week program guide for my cable provider.) I was indeed impressed, even amazed at the simplicity and quality of this product. Highly recommended! |

Hooked it up to over the air (OTA) sensor and a exemplar def (SD) Dish Network, locale the signals with a splitter. 1080 and 720 OTA are uncommonly piquant 480i is very adroit, SD impression is favourable but after seeing the HD makes me penury to upgrade my Dish to HD.
